Before we could publish this, more #derailments have happened-
Organisational changes began in the name of #transformation – which were much needed, but as it happened elsewhere, in #IndianRailways, the process was hijacked by “good on ppts” #SudheerKumar. Then past 10 years have been steady downhill for Indian Railways despite massive investments. #Work-culture which was #bad became #worse as #leadership became #adhoc and #tentative. Focus on short term performance is incorrect for sectors like #Railways. Here the #infrastructure and leadership develops over years.
Successful gaming by Khan Market Gang (#KMG) made work culture extremely toxic which rewarded deception, lies and punished integrity. This is a failure which #Ministers cannot wash their hands from. Some examples:
- Entire #Khatauli-Team was rewarded and they gave you, dear PM sir, these #accidents. See:

- Entire racket of extortionists of railway #Vigilance has been promoted and those who retired are given post retirement positions. We wrote on 17 April 2024, “मुद्दा : मोदी जी का भ्रष्टाचार मिटाओ बनाम रेलमंत्री का भ्रष्टाचारी बचाओ!”
- On 14 July 2023 we wrote: “The Trillion Rupee Blunder – Modiji Beware!” where we warned against pumping of money in a system which is compromised.
- Senior officer of #RailwayBoard of Additional Member level indulged in unofficer like conduct and we wrote on 12 March 2024, “Mr. RailMinister, please restore the public trust and ensure adherence to principles of integrity and good governance”
- Officers who did business with Indian Railways on #IREPS was broken in three part article: 2 April 2023, “अधिकारी-वेंडर-नेक्सस का नया स्वरूप-अधिकारी स्वयं बना वेंडर Part 1”; 24 April 2023, “अधिकारी-वेंडर-नेक्सस का नया स्वरूप-अधिकारी स्वयं बना वेंडर Part 2”; 2 May 2023, “अधिकारी-वेंडर-नेक्सस का नया स्वरूप-अधिकारी स्वयं बना वेंडर Part 3”
Question is why these inputs were not acted upon despite these issues given to #Minister himself?
How can a reset happen?
Are there no #senior-officers left who have #trust in #political-leadership and ready to help them? They surely exist, but would they now like to continue to remain sidelined and refuse to work with such #corrosive-leadership is moot question.
It was #GorakhdhamExpress accident in May 2014 in #Chureb, #NERailway which marked beginning of #NDA rule. #Accident in #Gonda-#Jhilahi in #NERailway comes closely on heels of #KanchenjungaExpress accident and marks beginning of the third term.

Incidentally we not only wrote but also made a video report on June 29, 2024, “डीआरएम को “गतिशक्ति” के कार्यों से विलग किया जाए!” which has been referred to by NBT report. Officers are now busy in reporting on #Construction and similar such issues.
If we look at major #accidents of recent past following emerges – #derailments continue to be major reason (#NBT):

Thus, given present status of #signalling where even #wiring-integrity is not ensured, #station-working rules are not updated and more accidents happening for derailments, it is not clear why there should be #investment on #Kavach? As brought out by a senior officers, the posts of #signal-maintainers (#ESM), who have access to #physical-wiring has not yet been made #Safety-category.
One thing which #government needs to acknowledge that there are no quick fixes. We wrote on 9 December 2022, “हरिकेश की मर्माहत मृत्यु – अभी और क्या-क्या दिखाएगा ये खान मार्केट गैंग? पार्ट-3” where we quoted few readers and Modi ji:
“रेल चलाना अब एक जुआरी के अंध-निर्णय का हिस्सा बन गया है। चूंकि सिस्टम में सेफ्टी की कई परतें हैं, 10 में से 9 दांव ठीक लगते हैं, लेकिन एक हरिकेश मरता है, अथवा एक ट्रेन प्लेटफार्म पर चढ़ जाती है, या मेल-एक्सप्रेस के पीछे लोडेड मालगाड़ी का ब्रेक फेल हो जाता है।”
एक फीडबैक कुछ ऐसा भी रहा – “people say in one voice – these are not individual’s failure – these are systemic failures. For very long, short cuts have been encouraged and fudging of records supported by seniormost officers. Since a #Railway-system has several #layers of protection, most of these #shortcuts don’t lead to accidents. But when short cuts become mainstream, accidents become norm.”

You need committed officials who are not #agents of #vendors and not afraid to speak the truth. We recently exposed how signal passing at danger (#SPAD) of #Train no. 22221 #RajdhaniExpress was suppressed-
“Railway accidents need to be faced, not suppressed”. But was any action taken? Why did #RailwayBoard not punish involved officers and send a message that truthful position must be reported?
While induction of #engineers need to start as soon as possible, new work culture in railways needs to be seeded. It cannot be done by officers who are #exemplars of manipulations. These #examples provide a wrong #template to be followed by young officials. #Rotation, as we have repeatedly argued needs to be implemented sooner than later. #KMG needs to be dismantled. Targeted killing of careers must stop.
But can a #clueless, #rudderless Railway Ministry now left capable to do something? How would rest happen? Perhaps by restoring status-quo that existed before May 2014.
