Interaction with Industry Leaders on the Role of Technology in Building Viksit Bharat 2047
Hyderabad: Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, interacted with industry leaders at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (#HICC) during a session on the “Role of Technology in Building Viksit Bharat 2047” as part of his one-day visit to Hyderabad.
Addressing the industry leaders, Shri Vaishnaw said that technology is changing rapidly and Artificial Intelligence is transforming the global IT industry. He said these changes require continuous learning, innovation and adaptation. He urged the IT industry to make the most of this opportunity by developing next-generation technology solutions and strengthening India’s position as a global technology leader.

He also assured industry leaders that compute capacity of India will be augmented as it is the need of the hour. The Union Minister urged industry leaders to partner with educational institutions and help update their curriculum according to industry needs. He cited the example of #GSV, where Airbus worked with the institution to align its curriculum with industry requirements and is now hiring engineers from there.
Industry leaders suggested creating sector-specific data trusts in Indian educational institutions. Welcoming the suggestion, Shri Vaishnaw said that with Industry a pilot project can be started at IIT Hyderabad. Under this initiative, data trusts will securely host Indian datasets for specific sectors. Appropriate usage policies will be put in place so that startups, researchers and companies can use the data responsibly.
Highlighting the Government’s efforts to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem, the Minister said that 315 universities across the country have been equipped with advanced Electronic Design Automation (#EDA) tools. These tools enable students to design semiconductor chips using industry-standard platforms. He added that these chip designs are fabricated at the Semiconductor Laboratory (#SCL), Mohali, giving students practical experience from chip design to fabrication and testing.
Shri Vaishnaw also highlighted India’s strong growth in electronics manufacturing. He said the sector has crossed ₹13 lakh crore in production and continues to grow at a double-digit #CAGR.
He noted that electronics has become India’s third-largest export category, while mobile phones are now the country’s largest individual export product. He said these achievements reflect India’s emergence as a trusted global manufacturing and technology hub.
The interaction provided an opportunity for industry leaders to share their views on artificial intelligence, semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, digital infrastructure and other emerging technologies. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between the Government and industry to accelerate innovation and achieve the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
