Scrap NPS and restore the defined OPS

New Delhi: The National Convention on “SCRAP NPS” and “RESTORE THE DEFINED OLD PENSION SCHEME” will be held at New Delhi on today, 21.01.2023 to decide Action Programme by the Federations / Unions / Associations of Central and State Government Employees.

The National Pension System (NPS) implemented for the Central Government Employees recruited on or after 01.01.2004 and also implemented by various State Governments for their employees from different dates and year is now proved to be disastrous to the employees after their retirement from service, since it is no way matching near the defined guaranteed old pension scheme.

This is despite the fact that the employees are contributing 10% of their wages every month for the pension fund constituted by the PFRDA.

Moreover the Government of India while implementing the NPS assured in writing in the meeting of the National Council (JCM) for Central Government Employees in the meeting held on 14.12.2007 that the pension under the NPS will not being less than / worse of, the Old Pension System.

However, this assurance is violated since the employees who are now retiring from service under the NPS is getting a very meager pension of Rs. 2000 to Rs. 4000, whereas the same employees if they are under Old Pension Scheme they must have got Rs. 15000 to Rs. 25000 as monthly pension.

Therefore against this no guaranteed NPS the Federations / Trade Unions and Associations of Central Government Employees and State Government Employees were observing various protest / agitational programmes independently and jointly throughout the country.

Having felt by all the Organizations fighting against NPS and demanding for restoration of Ols Pension Scheme that a National Joint Action is required for intensifying the anti NPS agitation that a Joint Forum for Restoration of Old Pension Scheme under the banner of NJCA, has been constituted in a meeting held on 07.01.2023 with the representatives of about 50 Organizations of Central Government Employees and State Government Employees including the Teaching Staff.

As decided in this meeting a Steering Committee consisting of 26 Representatives was constituted and a National Convention on SCRAP NPS and RESTORE THE DEFINED OLD PENSION SCHEME is scheduled to be held on 21.01.2023 at Pyarelal Bhawan, New Delhi.

In this convention a Declaration against NPS on SCRAP NPS and RESTORE THE DEFINED OLD PENSION SCHEME will be adopted including a series of protest action progremme to be observed throughout the country in all the Central Government Establishments / Offices including Railways, Defence, Postal, Central Secretariat and all State Government offices etc.

In case after all these serious action programmes which will culminate in a mega rally at Delhi during July/August 2023 when the Mansoon Session of the Parliament meets, if the Government does not come forward to Scrap NPS and Restore OPS, in the Rally further precipitative Action will be decided by Steering Committee.
