Cabinet approves multitracking projects covering 2 Districts across Maharashtra
Delhi (PIB): The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (#CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Two projects of Ministry of Railways with total cost of ₹2,781 crore (approx.) on 26.11.2025.
The projects approved includes the Badlapur-Karjat 3rd & 4th line project

Features
- It is part of the Mumbai-Chennai High Density Network and is an important route connecting Western & Southern India.
- It is also a crucial link for the Mumbai Suburban network which will ease the traffic on the Kalyan-Karjat route.
- It is a 32 kms route length section with 8 major bridges, 106 minor bridges, 1 Road Under Bridge and 6 stations enroute.
- The total cost of the project is Rs.1324 crore on 50:50 sharing basis between Railways and Govt. of Maharashtra.
Benefits
- It will benefit daily commuters on Mumbai suburban network.
- It will benefit commuters between Mumbai and Pune.
- It will enable introduction of more passenger and freight trains.
- It will address capacity constrains amid industrial expansion in the region.
- It is expected to generate additional freight traffic of 7.2 million tons per annum.
- It is also likely to save 41 lakh litres of diesel and lead to logistic cost saving of ₹46.2 crore every year.
- It will save 2 crore kg of Carbon Dioxide every year which is equivalent to planting approximately 8 lakh trees.
The Committee also approved the Devbhumi Dwarka (Okha) – Kanalus Doubling project
The approved doubling from Kanalus to Okha (Devbhoomi Dwarka) of 141 kms would provide enhanced connectivity to Dwarkadhish temple facilitating access to key pilgrimage destination and lead to all round development of Saurashtra region.
The projects are planned on PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan with focus on enhancing multi-modal connectivity & logistic efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder consultations.
These projects will provide seamless connectivity for movement of people, goods, and services.
The projects are in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s Vision of a New India which will make people of the region “Atmanirbhar” by way of comprehensive development in the area which will enhance their employment/self-employment opportunities.
This is an essential route for transportation of commodities such as coal, salt, container, cement, POL etc. The capacity augmentation works will result in additional freight traffic of magnitude 18 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum).
The Railways being environment friendly and energy efficient mode of transportation, will help both in achieving climate goals and minimizing logistics cost of the country, reduce oil import (3 Crore Litres) and lower CO2 emissions (16 Crore Kg) which is equivalent to plantation of 64 (Sixty Four) Lakh trees.
