SER: Celebration of “Azadi Ki Railgadi Aur Stations” concludes

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway celebrated the iconic week of “Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Stations” from 18th to 23rd July, 2022 along with other Zonal Railways to commemorate 75 years of Independence.

Ms. Archana Joshi, General Manager, South Eastern Railway was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony held at SER Headquarters, Garden Reach on 23.07.2022. Dr. Mahua Verma, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, South Eastern Railway and other senior Railway Officers were present during the closing ceremony.

Ms. Archana Joshi, General Manager, South Eastern Railway inaugurated the ceremony on the concluding day at BNR Auditorium, South Eastern Railway headquarters, Garden Reach by lighting the auspicious lamp.

In her speech, Ms. Joshi spoke about the theme of “Azadi Ki Rail Gadi And Stations” and mentioned the important role of Indian Railways in the history of Indian freedom struggle. She has also given a brief account of the activities undertaken by the Divisions during this week-long celebration.

As a part of observance of “Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Stations”, altogether 75 stations were identified as Freedom Stations throughout the country, of which four stations were in the jurisdiction of South Eastern Railway viz. Chakradharpur, Tatanagar, Ranchi and Balasore.

This apart, 27 trains were identified for spot lighting which were flagged off by Freedom Fighters or their family members. In South Eastern RailwayтАЩs jurisdiction, 12810 Howrah-Mumbai Mail was flagged off by eminent Freedom Fighter, Smt. Jyotirmoyee Ghosh from Howrah Station on 20.07.2022.

A number of activities were organised at these Stations to commemorate the event Azadi Ki Rail Gadi Aur Stations.  Nukkad Nataks, having essence of freedom struggle have been staged at different stations.

Digital Photo Galleries, Sellfie Points, Photo Exhibitions were set up at Stations related to freedom struggle. Performance of Patriotic Songs were organised at the major stations.

Felicitation of freedom fighters and their family members were also organised during the celebration. Painting competitions were also held among the school students on the subject of freedom movement.

A cultural programme was organised in the Closing Ceremony based on the freedom movement of India and remembering the immortal patriots. Soul stirring patriotic songs and a short skit were performed by the members of Headquarters Cultural Association which left the audience spellbound.

The week long ceremony came to an end with the National Anthem.
