Controversy Erupts Over Alleged Selection of Corrupt Official to Vigilance Post in Northern Railway

NEW DELHI: A severe controversy has erupted within #NorthernRailway following accusations that a railway employee previously booked for major #Corruption charges is slated for selection as a #Vigilance Inspector. The complaint, filed by All India Lease Holders Association (#AILHA) representative Rampal and supported by multiple documented pieces of evidence, targets #SanjeevKumarKulshreshtha, an official whose administrative record includes past disciplinary actions and serious allegations of extortion.

According to historical records and Railway Board documentation dating back to 2014, #Kulshreshtha, alongside other officials, was previously implicated in a major #extortion bid involving the unlawful unloading and seizure of leased cargo on a Howrah-bound express train. An independent trial conducted by Railway Board Vigilance at Old Delhi Railway Station at the time disproved the officials’ claims regarding parcel loading limitations, substantiating the complaint and prompting the issuance of an SF-5 major penalty charge sheet. Furthermore, directive orders mandated that the accused be immediately removed from sensitive parcel handling duties and stationed in non-sensitive departments.

Despite these directives and subsequent media exposures concerning illicit asset accumulation and intimidation, critics claim that administrative oversights and internal maneuvering have allowed the employee to evade rigorous penalties. Complainants have also alleged that the accused utilized official communication channels to issue threats to whistleblowers.

The current advancement of the employee toward a sensitive vigilance position has sparked widespread concern among traders and leaseholders, who argue that placing an individual with a history of disciplinary actions into an internal watchdog role threatens the integrity and transparency of Northern Railway’s vigilance framework.

Copies of the formal grievances and appeals have been forwarded to top railway authorities, the Central Vigilance Commission, and various parliamentary and union representatives for urgent intervention.
