Public Safety Breach: 1st AC cabin illegally altered into a private “Honeymoon Suite”

Calls mount for immediate dismissal of TTE and legal action against the decoration firm

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: In an unprecedented breach of protocol that has triggered massive public safety and security concerns across the country, a First AC cabin of Indian Railways was found completely altered and converted into a private “honeymoon suite” by a commercial event styling firm.

The security lapse came to light after a video went viral on social media, showcasing a coupe on the Mumbai CSMT-Balharshah-Nandigram Express completely transformed while the train was in active service. The first AC cabin was heavily draped with floral arrangements, thousands of rose petals, balloons, and an “I Love You” message plastered across the cabin wall.

Unprecedented Security Vulnerability

Legal and administrative experts are raising immediate alarms over the public safety threat this incident poses. This marks a dangerous first-of-its-kind violation within Indian Railways, where unauthorized individuals from a commercial firm were permitted to sneak in decorative materials and modify a moving train’s infrastructure without the consent or knowledge of the railway high command. Allowing external entities unchecked access to modify government property, while a train is operational, compromises passenger security and introduces a severe fire hazard given the flammable nature of the materials used.

Action Taken Thus Far

Following the public outrage over the viral video, the South Central Railway (#SCR) scrambled to take initial action. Chief Public Relations Officer of SCR, A. Sridhar, confirmed that the incident took place at the Jalna railway station in Maharashtra on July 6, 2026.

“The Traveling Ticket Examiner (TTE) at Jalna has been placed under suspension and an official inquiry into the matter is also ordered. It appears that the couple had taken help of an event styling service to decorate the First AC cabin. The TTE should not have allowed the firm to board the train,” Sridhar stated.

The commercial decorating firm, based out of Jalna, admitted to decorating the compartment in advance but pleaded ignorance regarding the strict operational laws governing Indian Railways, claiming they did not know official permissions were required. “This excuse is not acceptable”, say experts.

Needs Strict Administrative Action

To maintain public trust and prevent such catastrophic security lapses in the future, the following immediate steps are strongly urged upon the Ministry of Railways and local law enforcement:

  1. Immediate Sacking of the TTE Without Any Benefits: The mere suspension of the Travelling Ticket Examiner is an inadequate response to a compromise of this magnitude. As the sole authority responsible for checking tickets and maintaining security onboard, the TTE directly facilitated this security breach by allowing a private decoration crew to board and modify a moving train. The railway administration must immediately sack the responsible TTE from service with a complete forfeiture of all terminal and retirement benefits to set a harsh precedent.
  2. Filing of a Criminal FIR Against the Decoration Firm: The railway administration must swiftly lodge a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the Jalna-based event styling firm. Pleading ignorance of the law is unacceptable. Trespassing onto railway property, illegally altering a public coach, and introducing potential fire hazards without prior authorized permits must be treated as a criminal offense under the Railways Act, 1989.
  3. Establishment of Clear Public Safety Guidelines: Indian Railways must issue strict, non-negotiable directives across all zones prohibiting the modification or private styling of train interiors. Any commercial exploitation or unauthorized alterations must be met with severe legal consequences to protect the life and safety of ordinary passengers.
