SER’s growth in first quarter of current FY through operational excellence

Kolkata, 7th July, 2026: South Eastern Railway (#SER) has registered a steady growth during the first quarter (April–June) of FY 2026–27, achieving notable success across key operational and loading parameters.

South Eastern Railway has loaded total 53.06 Million Tonnes of originating freight in the first three months (April-June) of the current financial year (2026-27) registering a growth of 1.51% in comparison to the corresponding period of previous financial year. Among the major commodities, Finished Steel loading registered the highest growth of 18.22%, while Iron ore loading increased by 3.70%. Coal loading from MCL also recorded a significant 17.6% increase, averaging 18 rakes per day.

On the revenue front, originating freight revenue reached Rs. 4,539 crore, surpassing the corresponding period of the previous year by 1.10%. Coal traffic generated Rs. 1,426 crore, registering a 1.2% increase over last year. Finished Steel generated Rs. 810 crore, up by 13.19%. Loading of Fertilizer contributed Rs. 25 crore, reflecting a 3.15% growth and POL traffic earned Rs.52 crore, registering the highest growth of 26.39% over the corresponding period of the previous year.

Other achievements:

  • Diesel Engine Productivity registered a growth of 12.27%
  • Terminal Detention reduced by 12.02%
  • 25T Axle Load Rakes: 4206 with a growth of 1.08%
  • Average Daily Wagon Loading: 8404 Wagon/day with a growth of 1.08%
  • 25T Loading : 17.69 MT with a growth of 4.74%
  • Release of Rakes: 134.3 Rakes/day with a growth of 4.03%

Apart from its strong freight performance, South Eastern Railway continued to strengthen rail infrastructure and passenger services. During the period, the 3rd line section between Khantapara and Soro (18Km) under the Narayangarh-Bhadrak 3rd Line Project has been successfully commissioned on 02.06.2026.

Up to June 2026, a total 82 Special Trains were run with 289 trips. Moreover, 250 extra coaches were temporarily augmented in regular Mail/Express trains, significantly enhancing passenger connectivity and meeting increased travel demand.
