Train Parting is cause of concern

The following two cases happened in last week-

A. Train Parting of Pashchim Express: Non ensuring coupling led to parting twice so much so that power cables IV couplers got snapped after train parting and coaches in rear of parting went out of power. The two coaches were marked sick enroute and replacement given and total detention was around 5 hrs.

The coach involved in train parting was attached in the instant trip and coach was off IOH.

B. Goods Train Parting: On Monday, 29 September, train parting on NCR twice just after the rake came out of thermal power plant Bevra, tool place.

Some senior officers said that it’s happening every other day in all the divisions. “As per set Rules and Guidelines, its require the presence of a C&W supervisor and the station master/yard master/guard at the time of #coupling to verify proper coupling. However, coupling is performed by the #pointsman in the presence of only an #ALP.”

Action required

  1. Immediate drive/counselling/steps to check coupling after load is formed in power house is to be taken. Role of all staff involved is already stipulated.
  2. Ensure proper coupling after it is attached in load.
  3. There are detailed guidelines for inspection of goods and coaching train pertaining to coupling of trains, which need to be followed.
  4. Further there are laid down instructions for precautions for train parting related to various coupling components which need to checked and action need to be taken accordingly.
