SER achieves ₹400+ crore from scrap sales in a record time: leads all Zonal Railways

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway (SER) has achieved a scrap sale of ₹403.86 Crore up to October 2026. This is a historical milestone in scrap disposal value, marking the fastest-ever achievement by SER. This is 55.37% higher than the corresponding period of the previous year and 68.28% above the current financial year proportionate target of ₹240.00 Crore. SER is also the only Zonal Railway to have crossed the ₹400-crore mark during the current financial year, reflecting its exceptional performance in scrap disposal, revenue generation and cleanliness initiatives.

A major contribution to this achievement came during October 2026, when SER recorded scrap sales worth ₹90.43 crore against a target of ₹49 crore fixed under the Swachchhatta Special Campaign 6.0. This is highest sale by any Zonal Railway during the campaign period and highlights SER’s commitment to the systematic disposal of obsolete and unserviceable materials, cleaner railway premises and the objectives of the Swachchh Bharat Mission.

The sustained success of this initiative reflects the focused guidance of General Manager Anil Kumar Jain, who has consistently emphasized the mission of “Zero Scrap” across South Eastern Railway. Under his leadership, the SER team has intensified efforts to identify, map and systematically dispose of accumulated scrap across its establishments. A significant achievement in this direction is that, majority of the work units across SER have attained Zero Scrap status. Under this mission all fresh scrap arising at identified work locations, have been sold and lifting of these sold scrap have been completed in majority of the locations.

This milestone reflects the concerted efforts of the Stores Department and other railway establishments through an extensive zone-wide mapping and mopping exercise to identify and clear scrap from depots, workshops, sheds and other railway premises. SER’s record-breaking performance demonstrates how focused monitoring, coordinated departmental efforts and systematic asset management can deliver significant results.

South Eastern Railway has reaffirmed its commitment to the mission of Zero Scrap, cleaner railway premises, efficient resource management and enhanced revenue generation for Indian Railways.
