₹1,854 crore Metro cars contract awarded to Alstom by MMRDA
Alstom per coach costs Rs. 7.97 crore, whereas per coach cost of Tejas is around Rs. 3 crore only!
A contract worth €220 million (Rs. 1,854 crore) for Metro cars has been awarded to Alstom by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
This contract is awarded to design, manufacture, test, supply and commission a total of 234 Metro cars.
It include personnel training for Mumbai Metro Line 4 and Wadala-Kasarvardavali-Gaimukh extension corridor.
This first order, following its merger with Bombardier Transportation, demonstrates the commitment towards partnering in the Make in India mission.
Region President, Alstom Asia-Pacific, Ling Fang, informed that, “Alstom is proud to play a part in strengthening the country’s infrastructure and providing world-class mobility solutions to the commercial capital of India”.
The line is a 35.3-km-long elevated corridor with 32 stations providing connectivity among the existing Eastern Express Roadway, Mono Rail, the ongoing Metro Line 2B (D N Nagar Mandale), and the proposed Metro Line 5 (Thane-Kalyan), and Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar Vikhroli).
Metro Line 4 & 4A is expected to cut the current travel time by 50-75 per cent depending on conditions.
This works out to 234 coaches at Rs. 1,854 Crores, that is Rs. 7.97 Crores per coach whereas Tejas cost is around Rs. 3 crores per coach only.
