CBI Books Northern Railway Chief OS and His Wife in Disproportionate Assets Case

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (#CBI) has registered a fresh case against #DileepKumarChawla, Chief Office Superintendent at Northern Railway Central Hospital (#NRCH), Delhi, and his wife #JyotiChawla, ANO, for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets worth over ₹89.51 lakh.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption-III branch on September 10, 2026, the case was initiated following a complaint lodged by CBI Inspector Aman Rana. The action stems from documents seized during earlier premises searches conducted in connection with a prior bribery case registered in February 2026 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Scrutiny of the seized material revealed that Chawla, who joined the railway service in 1991 as a clerk and rose to become Chief Office Superintendent in the same place and handling the clearance of bills for empanelled private hospitals and diagnostic centres, accumulated wealth far exceeding his legal earnings.

During the designated check period between January 2, 2023, and February 19, 2026, Chawla’s total assets climbed from ₹2.33 crore to ₹3.81 crore, reflecting an addition of ₹1.47 crore in movable and immovable properties. Against an earned income of ₹2.37 crore and documented expenditures of ₹1.79 crore, his likely savings stood at approximately ₹58.36 lakh. This left an unexplained surplus of ₹89,51,828.26, representing assets 37.68 percent disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The agency has charged Dileep Kumar Chawla with criminal misconduct and illicit enrichment under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, while his wife Jyoti Chawla has been named as an accused for abetting the illicit acquisition under Section 12. The investigation has been handed over to Additional Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Singh.
