CBI Books Sacked Former DRM/VSKP Saurabh Prasad in ₹2.19 Crore DA Case
Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Anti-Corruption-I branch, New Delhi, has registered a regular case against former Vishakhapattanam Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known legal sources of income. The case (FIR No. RC2162026A0009) was booked on September 7, 2026, under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Prasad, a 1994-batch Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer who served as CME in Konkan Railway and Central Railway before heading the Vishakhapattanam division from July 2023 until his arrest in November 2024, was later removed from service under Section 56(j).
The investigation stems from an earlier trap case registered on November 16, 2024, wherein Prasad was apprehended red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹25 lakh to clear pending bills of a private firm. Subsequent search operations carried out on November 16 and 17, 2024, at his residential premises in Chembur, Mumbai, and other locations led to the seizure of foreign currencies—including US Dollars, Euros, Mauritian Rupees, and Swiss Francs—along with gold coins, gold and silver jewelry, and extensive financial records concerning his family’s earnings and investments.
A detailed financial analysis covering the check period from April 1, 2021, to November 17, 2024, revealed that Prasad entered the period with assets valued at ₹1,04,44,008. By the close of the period, his total assets surged to ₹5,40,74,600, reflecting an asset growth of ₹4,36,30,592. During this timeframe, his total legitimate income from all known sources stood at ₹3,53,07,917 against total household expenditures of ₹1,35,84,900, yielding likely legitimate savings of ₹2,17,23,017. After deducting these viable savings, the agency established unexplained disproportionate assets totaling ₹2,19,07,575, which stands at 62.04 percent over his lawful income. The matter has been assigned to CBI Inspector Vikash for further investigation and report.
