AIRF successfully completed mass agitation and public awareness campaign

GS/AIRF warned the Government not to proceed on the path of privatisation and corporatisation of Railways, which railwaymen will oppose tooth and nail with all the might at AIRF’s command

New Delhi: With a view to lodge strong protest against the move of the Ministry of Railways, Government of India to permit private entities to operate 150 trains on 109 important routes of Indian Railways as well as Corporatise Railway Production Units, a Massive Agitational Programme and “Public Awareness Campaign” was launched by AIRF and its affiliated unions from 14-19 September, 2020 all over the Indian Railways across the length and breadth of the country.

Different types of programmes were organised during this week by the affiliates of AIRF, which included Torch Light Procession, Scooter/Bike Rallies, Protest Meetings, Seminars/Webinars on Privatisation and Corporatization of Indian Railways, and finally on 19th September, 2020 all the Railwaymen expressed their anguish against this move of the Ministry of Railways by wearing black badges and

ribbons and paying tributes to the Martyrs of 19th September, 1968 Historic Strike.

#Save_Railway_Save _Nation was also tweeted by lakhs of Railway Employees, addressing Prime Minister and Minister for Railways, demanding review of their decisions of Privatisation and Corporatisation of Indian Railways.

All the Railwaymen, whether residing in Railway accommodations or Private accommodations, lodged their protests by putting-off lights of their houses between 08:00 to 08:10 pm on 19th September, 2020.

The movement was very effectively and enthusiastically participated by all the Railwaymen.

According to reports received from all over the country, Railwaymen took part in all the agitational programmes in masses, despite COVID-19 Pandemic, following safety guidelines, i.e. maintaining physical distancing, using face masks etc., and near about 3.5 lakh tweets have been reported on 19th September, 2020, wherein young Railwaymen have also shown their enthusiasm and solidarity.

General Secretary AIRF, Shiva Gopal Mishra, addressing the 52nd Saheedi Diwas Programme at Pathankot, warned the Government not to proceed on the path of privatisation and corporatisation of Indian Railways, which Railwaymen will oppose tooth and nail with all the might at AIRF’s command.

He also said that, in case the Government does not favourably consider the demand of AIRF, Railwaymen shall be compelled to launch “Direct Action” as the last resort.
