Union Budget 2026-27: Record Allocation of ₹23,926 crore for Maharashtra
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways, while addressing the media on Budget Allocation for Maharashtra—through video conferencing—stated that in the budget 2026-27, a record allocation of ₹23,926 crores have been provided to Maharashtra.
It is almost 20 times more than the average allocation of Rs. 1171 crore per year given to Maharashtra during 2009-14.
Seven High-Speed Rail Projects announced in the budget out of which 2 new Bullet Train corridors are in the Maharashtra, which are as below along with the travel time:
- Mumbai–Pune: 48 minutes
- Pune–Hyderabad: 1 hour 55 minutes (within 2 hrs)
Infrastructure Transformation: Total works worth ₹1,70,058 Crore are under progress. This massive investment covers track creation, station redevelopment, and safety enhancements across the entire Maharashtra.
- 132 stations in Maharashtra have been identified for complete redevelopment under the Amrit Station Scheme.
- Total Investment: ₹5,675 Crore for station modernisation.
Travel efficiency in the state has reached new heights with the operation of premium train services:
- Vande Bharat Express: 12 pairs.
- Amrit Bharat Express: 5 pairs.
Railway network has rapidly expanded in Maharashtra:
- Track Construction: Since 2014, approximately 2,400 km of tracks have been constructed. This is more than the entire rail network of Malaysia.
- Full Electrification: The state has achieved 100% electrification, with 3,744 km of rail lines electrified since 2014.
- Constructed 1,228 flyovers and underpasses to improve road safety.
- Kavach is sanctioned on 4971 RKM of which 576 has been already deployed and 3617 RKM work/tender is in under process.
Prateek Goswami, General Manager, Central Railway; Avanish Kumar Pandey, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction); Rajneesh Mathur, Principal Chief Engineer; Arvind Malkhede, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Central Railway and Hiresh Mina, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division were present at CSMT during the Press Briefing.
