Railway Officers showing undue favour to the contractors by taking huge bribes
Multiple officers and employees of the multiple Divisions—and Railways—arrested by the CBI who were involved in corruption-commission
Lucknow: A reliable source has informed that some public servants of Northern Railway (NR) namely Vivek Kushwaha, Dy. CEN, Gati Shakti, Northem Railways (NR), Lucknow in criminal conspiracy with Rakeeh Ranjan, Sr. DEN (Co-ordination), NER (North Eastem Railwap), Varanasi, Manish, OS, Ofiice of DRM, North Eastern Railway, Varanasi, Abhishek Gupta, SSE Works, NER, Varanasi, Yogesh Gupta, Accounts Section of AEN (Assistant Engineer), NER Varanasi, Sushil Kumar Rai, Senior Clerk in the office of AEN, Varanasi Division, NER, Praveen Kumar Singh of M/s Tangent lnfratech Private Limited, New Delhi and Jimmy Singh, an employee of Praveen Kumar Singh are indulging into corrupt and illegal practices and showing undue favour to the railway contractors in passing of bills, sanction of deviation, grant of variation etc. by taking huge bribes on regular basis,
Source has informed that one work/ tender under the Gati Shakti project at Bhadohi, Varanasi, Uttrar Pradesh has been awarded to Praveen Kumar Singh and Sikander Ali, which comes under the supervision of that Vivek Kushwaha, Dy. CEN, Gati Shakti, NR, Lucknow On various occasions Vivek Kushwaha, Dy. CEN has approved his bills of exaggerated variation in exchange for bribe causing wrongful gain to the private contraclor and himself.
Source has further informed that some public servants of North Eastern Railways (NER) are also in the habit of demanding and accepting bribe money from Praveen Singh.
Source has also informed that on 21.06.2025 and 26.06.2025, Praveen Kumar Singh directed Jimmy Singh to deliver a bribe amount of Rs 2,00,000/- to Rakesh Ranjan, Sr. DEN (Co-ordination), NER, Varanasi for recommending the variation bill matter favourably. Praveen Kumar Singh provided the number of Rakesh Ranjan, Sr. DEN (Co-ordination), NER, Varanasi and instructed Jimmy Singh to call him on whatsapp and deliver the said bribe. On 27.06.2025 Jimmy Singh informed Praveen Kumar Singh that he has delivered the said bribe amount to Rakesh Ranjan at the club.
Source has further informed that on 28.04.2025 Abhishek Gupta, SSE, Works, NER, Varanasi demanded the bribe of Rs. 50,000/- for the favours shown by him to Praveen Kumar Singh. Abhishek Gupta also shared the account details with Jimmy Singh. Furthet Shri Keshav Choudhary Accountant of Praveen Kumar Singh credited a sum of Rs 50,000/- in the Bank Account, details of which was provided by Abhishek Gupta, as directed by Praveen Singh.
Source has further informed that Manish, OS, North Eastem Railways, Varanasi is also in the habit of obtaining bribe frcm Praveen Kumar Singh in exchange of processing and passing the bills of escalated variation of M/s Tangent Infratech Private Limited. Source has informed that Manish, OS is processing and pursuing one such bill amounting to Rs.3 Crore. This bill is reported to be pending with a lady ofiicer and Manish, OS has promised her a shara of bribe money once the said bill is passed. Later, on 03.07.2025 Manish, OS informed Praveen Kumar Singh that the variation had been approved by the DRM and claimed that due to his sincere perconal efforb, Shri Praveen Kumar Singh’s bill has been paid.
Source has further informed that Shri Praveen Kumar Singh is in the habit of delivering bribe amount to public seryanb who fall in the hierarchy of passing his bills through his own employees. Yogesh Gupta, officer of the Accounts Section, NER, Varanasi directed Jimmy Singh, an employee of M/s Tangent lnfratech Private Limited to deliver the bribe money due to him on Monday, 14.07.2025. Sushil Kumar Rai, posted as Senior Clerk in office of AEN (Assistant Engineer), Varanasi Division, NER has been demanding and obtaining bribes from Praveen Kumar Singh regularly.
Source has further informed that on 13.07.2025, Praveen Kumar Singh directed Jimmy Singh, his employee, to travel to Lucknow on 14.07.2025 and deliver a bribe of Rs. 7 lakh to Vivek Kushwaha, Dy. CEN, Gati Shakti, NR, Lucknow. Hence, there is a likelihood that Jimmy Singh will go to Lucknow and deliver a total bribe amount of Rs 7 lakh to Vivek Kushwaha, Dy. CEN, Gati Shakti, NR, Lucknow on 14.07.2025.
The aforementioned acts of demanding and accepting bribe by the public servants and bribing of public servants by private persons and disclose the commission of cognizable offences punishable u/s 61(2) of BNS, 2023 r/w (3c) section 7, 8, 9 & 10 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) and substantive offences thereof on the part of Vivek Kushwaha, Dy. CEN, Gati Shakti, Northern Railway (NR), Lucknow, Rakesh Ranjan, Sr. DEN (Coordination), NER, Varanasi Division, NER, Manish, OS, office of DRM, North Eastem Railway, Varanasi, Division, Abhishek Gupta, SSE Works, NER, Varanasi, Yogesh Gupta, Accounts Section of AEN, NER, Varanasi, Sushil Kumar Rai, Senior Clerk in ofiice of AEN (Assistant Engineer), NER Varanasi Division, Praveen Kumar Singh of M/s Tangent Infratech Private Limited, New Delhi, Jimmy Singh, an employee of Praveen Kumar Singh, M/s Tangent lnfratech Private Limited, New Delhi and unknown others.
Hence, a regular case is registered and entrusted to Sandeep Thalore, inspector, CBl, ACB, Lucknow for investigation.
