Why Railway Officers are not Respected by anyone?

Unlike the retired #IAS/#IPS officers or even the retired #Railway-officers of the bygone era, these days the retired Railway officers are not respected by the politicians, press or public.

The reasons are not far to seek. Most of the senior Railway officers display apalling levels of greed, cowardice and apathy in the race to occupy top posts as they approach superannuation.

Then, once they get these exalted positions, they shamelessly engage in competitive chamchagiri-chaploosi, behind-the-scene manipulations, bribery, caste maneuvers and politicking in order to manage some post-retirement government rehabilitation as adviser or some obscure committee member or a member of a tribunal.

These people become most selfish, greedy and unprincipled just before they reach the top. Almost invariably, during this phase they end up harming the organisational and national interests to please the politicians often in sharp contrast to their own track record.

They find no shame or feel no guilt at all in sacrificing the image mostly earned through years of hard work in earning an upright and tough professional image. Very often asked car, an attendant and a house in Delhi plus a small salary of 2 to 3 lakhs is enough to turn the tough Railway bosses into the most docile “pussy-cats” of the political masters.

These people become ardent followers of Gandhi jee in as much as they “see nothing, hear nothing and say nothing” against the most terrible anti-national or anti-cadre decisions of the powers that be. Therefore, they finally “do nothing” before they retire only to be re-engaged till they re-retire!

Such officers are more easily found in #Railways than in other organised services. Within Railways, perhaps their percentage is more in #IRTS than in any other cadre. The downfall of a cadre is directly proportional to the percentage of such “honestly self seeking” beings at the top.

So, the solution is—post retirement re-engagement of bureaucrats must be banned in national interest.
