The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a senior officer of Indian Railways in Punjab for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a contractor, officials said.

According to the FIR filed by CBI, Rail Coach Factory Principal Chief Engineer Suresh Chand Meena was arrested for taking bribes from a contractor who was undertaking work related to the civilian horticulture of the factory.

PCE Meena was taking bribes in connection with payment-related work in his office, CBI said.

“During the meeting, the accused allegedly demanded bribes at the rate of 1 per cent of gross payments received by complainantтАЩs firm in lieu of completed tender work and also for further continuation of contract work,” CBI said.

The CBI laid a trap in Kapurthala and caught Meena red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 1 lakh, officials said.

Searches were conducted at the offices and residential premises of the accused at Kapurthala and Jaipur which led to the recovery of incriminating documents, officials added.

Meena was produced before the Court of Special Judge in PunjabтАЩs Mohali on Saturday where he was remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody.
