Sanjay Chander, IPS: The newly appointed Director General, Railway Protection Force

Mr Sanjay Chander has taken over the charge of Director General RPF at Ministry of Railways (Railway Board) from Mr. Kumar Rajesh Chandra on 21.09.2021 (A/N).

Sanjay Chander, is an M.Phil, a Post Graduate in Economics and has a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration.

He was selected for the Indian Police Service in 1987 and was allotted West Bengal Cadre.

He was the Ensign Officer who received the PresidentтАЩs Colors presented to the National Police Academy, Hyderabad in 1988.

Mr Sanjay Chander has extensive experience of policing as Additional Superintendent/Superintendent of Police in many criminally, communally and politically sensitive districts of the State of West Bengal.

He has served the West Bengal Government and West Bengal Police in various capacities as Principal (Co-ordination), Home (Police) Department, Additional Director General (Intelligence), Additional Director General (Counter Insurgency Force) and Director General of Police (Establishment).

He has served in Central Industrial Security Force, a Central Paramilitary Force entrusted with guarding Industrial Establishments, Ports and Airports, in the capacity as Deputy Inspector General (Induction & Policy)/Security/Personnel and Inspector General North Sector.

During his tenure in CISF, apart from assigned responsibilities, his focus was to ensure proper HR management, up-gradation of the skills of Force personnel so that they can meet the emerging challenges in industrial security.

He also served the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the central force of the nation responsible for Internal Security and anti terror operations as Additional Director General North-East Zone, Guwahati, Additional Director General (Training) and Special Director General (Works).

As Additional Director General North-East Zone, he exercised operational and administrative control over four Sectors of North East Zone тАУ North Eastern Sector, Operations Jorhat Sector, Manipur & Nagaland Section and Tripura Sector including 3 Composite Hospitals, 5 Group Centres and Arms Work Shop. Besides, 35 Executive Battalions, 1 CoBRA Battalion (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action) & Companies of Ladies Battalion were deployed in Operational jurisdiction of North East Zone for Law & Order, VIP Security and counter insurgency duties.

As Additional Director General (Training) and Special Director General (Works) of CRPF, he facilitated improvement in training methodology and Throughout his career spanning more than 34 years, he kept the areas of Organisational development, up-gradation of professional skills, training and welfare of Force personnel and their families under constant focus.

He has been awarded the Police Medals for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service by the HonтАЩble President of India and Ati Utkrisht Sewa Medal on the occasion of 83rd CRPF Raising Day 2021.

He was also awarded Commendation Discs by DG CISF and DG CRPF for his notable performance.

As Director General of #RPF, he will look forward to implementation of technological and innovative solutions and make transformational changes in the field of Railway Security.

Mr. Chander, #DGRPF will be the new Vice Chairman of the UIC Security Platform from 21.09.2021 to 30.06.2022 and subsequently will assume the charge of the Chairman, UIC Security Platform w.e.f. 01.07.2022.

Hope, now Mr Chander will serve better to the RPF staff and take care of their welfare, and control internal corruption & manipulation of departmental officers.
