SER earns ₹148.54 crore through scrap disposal in the first quarter of FY 26-27

Kolkata, 1st July, 2026: South Eastern Railway (#SER) has registered an outstanding performance in scrap disposal during the 1st Quarter of the Financial year 2026–27, achieving a record sale of ₹148.54 Crore. This is the highest-ever scrap sale achieved by SER during the 1st. Quarter of any financial year.

The achievement is 21.24% higher than the scrap sale during the corresponding period of the previous year and 65.04% above the proportionate target for the first quarter of the current financial year. Besides generating substantial revenue for the Railways, scrap disposal is one of the key activities contributing to the Government’s Swachh Bharat Mission by ensuring cleaner railway premises and optimal utilization of valuable assets.

This remarkable performance has been made possible under the visionary leadership of General Manager Shri A. K. Jain, who has been consistently emphasizing the goal of “Zero Scrap Mission” across SER by October 2026. His focused guidance and continuous monitoring have inspired all departments to accelerate the identification, offering  and disposal of obsolete and unserviceable materials.

During the first three months of the FY 26-27, SER disposed of 22,398 MT of ferrous scrap, 440 MT of non-ferrous scrap, 42 Nos of coaches, 306 Nos. of wagons, and 2963 MT of other released miscellaneous materials. With this achievement, SER has emerged as one of the top-performing Zonal Railways in the country in scrap disposal for 1st. Quarter of FY 26-27 and is currently ranked second among 18 Zonal Railways in terms of scrap sale revenue.

In pursuit of its “Zero Scrap Mission”, the Stores Department of SER has undertaken an extensive zone-wise mapping and mopping exercise through cross functional coordination to identify and clear accumulated scrap from sections, depots, workshops, sheds and other railway establishments.
