Solapur Station to Get Major Infrastructure Boost with New Coaching Depot at Tikekarwadi

Mumbai: The #Solapur Division of #CentralRailway continues to strengthen its infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency with the sanctioning of a #Coaching Maintenance Depot at #Tikekarwadi under Phase-I. The project has been approved in the Budget for the year 2025–26, marking a significant step towards capacity augmentation in the region.

The proposed facility at Tikekarwadi station is strategically planned to support the growing coaching maintenance requirements of Solapur Division. Located approximately 7 km from Solapur station, Tikekarwadi offers ample availability of railway land, making it an ideal #location for large-scale infrastructure development. The station is poised to function as an extended operational hub complementing Solapur station.

Key Features of the Project (Phase-I):
  • Construction of two new washing-cum-pit lines (each approximately 700 meters)
  • Provision of two additional washing-cum-pit lines (750 meters each with 650-meter pits)
  • Development of two stabling lines (750 meters each) for coach parking and maintenance
  • Conversion of existing UP loop line into a UP & DN common line for improved flexibility
  • Conversion of existing ballast siding into DN reception-cum-UP departure line
  • Provision of a Tandem Wheel Lathe (#TWL) line (1300 meters) along with shed
  • Creation of a dedicated coach stock line
  • Provision of loco trip shed line to support locomotive operations

This comprehensive infrastructure upgrade will significantly enhance the Division’s capability for efficient rake maintenance, faster turnaround of trains, and improved reliability of passenger services. The addition of modern maintenance facilities such as the Tandem Wheel Lathe will also ensure higher safety standards and reduced downtime of rolling stock.

The project reflects Indian Railways’ continued commitment to modernization, capacity enhancement, and passenger-centric improvements. Upon completion, the Tikekarwadi Coaching Depot is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting future growth in train operations across the region.
