Delhi (PIB): Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw today inspected the ongoing redevelopment works at Chandigarh Railway Station on Saturday, 28.11.2025. Senior officials briefed the Minister on the progress of the station modernization project.
After a detailed review, Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed satisfaction with the progress of the redevelopment works. Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh, General Manager of Northern Railway Ashok Kumar Verma, and other senior officials were present during the inspection.
Speaking to the media at Chandigarh Railway Station, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Chandigarh Railway Station is being redeveloped as a world-class station. Several innovations have been implemented, one of which is a modular design that uses prefabricated structures. The station will connect the two ends of Panchkula and Chandigarh city through a roof plaza. The station is being redeveloped at a cost of ₹462 crore. Work is progressing rapidly. The team is making every effort to redevelop the station quickly.”
The objective of redeveloping Chandigarh Railway Station is to provide world-class facilities. Chandigarh station serves as a major gateway, providing services to most tourists and passengers travelling to popular destinations in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
These accelerated efforts focus on enhancing passenger amenities, improving connectivity, and creating a modern, convenient, and efficient travel hub that reflects the city’s planned architecture and meets the growing needs of its users.
Earlier, the Union Minister inspected the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali and reviewed its operations. He stated that #SCL is being expanded and modernised with an investment of ₹4,500 crore. SCL is adopting the latest technology.
