Sultanganj–Katoria rail line work to begin shortly, gift for Shiva devotees
New Delhi: Indian Railways has decided to start work on the Sultanganj–Katoria rail line in Bihar. This will make travel easier by train for Shiva devotees from Bhagalpur, Deoghar, and across the country.
The total length of this project is 74.8 kilometers, passing through Asarganj, Tarapur, and Belhar. The proposed rail section will have stops at Sultanganj, Katoria, Asarganj, Tarapur, Belhar, Srinagar, and Suyabthan.

Katoria will become a junction station, as it currently lies on the Banka–Jasidih rail line. Once the project is completed, it will greatly benefit the millions of devotees who carry holy water to Deoghar every year.
According to the latest estimates, the total cost of the project will be around ₹1,261 crore. At present, the distance from Sultanganj to Deoghar via Bhagalpur, Banka, and Katoria is about 131 kilometers, which will reduce to nearly 101 kilometers after the new line is built—significantly improving connectivity between Sultanganj and Deoghar.
