PM Dedicated railway projects worth more than ₹1,400 crore to the nation at a program held in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: On 25 August 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated railway projects worth more than ₹1,400 crore to the nation at a program held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
These projects will particularly benefit the districts of Mehsana, Patan, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, and Ahmedabad in North Gujarat. They are expected to make a significant contribution to regional connectivity, industrial development, logistics efficiency, and employment generation.
Among the projects dedicated by the Prime Minister are:
- Doubling of the Mehsana–Palanpur rail line (65 km) at a cost of ₹537 crore,
- Gauge conversion of the Kalol–Kadi–Katosan Road rail line (37 km) at a cost of ₹347 crore, and
- Gauge conversion of the Becharaji–Ranuj rail line (40 km) at a cost of ₹520 crore.
These projects will provide seamless, safe, and uninterrupted broad-gauge connectivity to the districts of Mehsana, Banaskantha, and Patan in North Gujarat. This will make travel for daily commuters, tourists, and businesses easier and faster, while also boosting regional economic integration.
The additional line capacity will enable faster train operations on the Ahmedabad–Delhi route, paving the way for more passenger trains and improving the speed and efficiency of freight trains. In this way, the projects will infuse new energy into Gujarat’s economic activities.
The gauge conversion of the Becharaji–Ranuj rail line has been undertaken in line with the National Logistics Policy and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Multimodal Connectivity. Its aim is to reduce logistics costs and further improve Gujarat’s ranking in the Logistics Performance Index.
This initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will accelerate the socio-economic progress of North Gujarat, while also setting a new benchmark in India’s logistics and railway sector.
In addition, the Prime Minister also inaugurated passenger train services between Katosan Road and Sabarmati via Kadi and flagged off a car-loaded freight train service from Becharaji. The new Katosan–Sabarmati passenger service will not only improve access to tourist and religious destinations but also promote local-level economic activity.
Similarly, the car-loaded freight service from Becharaji will strengthen connectivity for industrial areas of the state, expanding the logistics network and creating new employment opportunities.
Both of these services will provide the region with a sustainable, eco-friendly, and high-speed transport option. This will reduce travel time and lead to substantial growth in regional industrial development, investment attraction, and job creation. Together, these railway projects will pave the way from Viksit Gujarat (Developed Gujarat) to Viksit Bharat (Developed India).
