A Major Step by the Ministry of Railways Toward Strengthening Connectivity in Tribal-Dominated Areas
Approval Granted for Final Survey of the Neemuch–Banswara–Dahod New Railway Line
A New Route from Delhi to Mumbai to Be Developed
Tribal Region Banswara to Get New Rail Connectivity – Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister for Railways
New Delhi (PIB): In a significant move toward the economic and social development of tribal-dominated areas, the Ministry of Railways has taken an important step. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the final survey of a new 380-kilometer-long railway line from Neemuch–Banswara–Dahod–Nandurbar.
Commenting on this approval, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that Banswara, a tribal-dominated region, has natural connectivity with Dahod. Therefore, along with the Dungarpur–Banswara–Ratlam project, it has been decided to prepare a DPR for the Neemuch–Banswara–Dahod rail line.
This line will provide a new route for trains traveling between Delhi and Mumbai via the tribal region of Banswara.
This route will be the shortest link connecting the Tapti section with the Mumbai–Delhi main route via Dahod.
It will benefit six cities across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Shahada city may also be included in the survey, as it has a population of over 50,000.
Banswara district in Rajasthan is a hilly area rich in mineral resources, but it is currently not connected to the Indian Railways network. The region is abundant in minerals like manganese ore, dolomite, limestone, gold, copper, and quartzite. Therefore, there is strong potential for freight transport, which can be efficiently carried through the shorter Neemuch–Banswara–Dahod route.
Additionally, the Dahod–Alirajpur–Nandurbar section lies in a hilly and tribal region. This route will serve as a shorter link connecting the high-density Mumbai–New Delhi main railway corridor from the Tapti rail segment via Dahod. It will help uplift marginalized communities and connect them with the rest of the country through the railway network.
This new railway line will also promote tourism in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, while simultaneously generating employment opportunities at the local level.
