CBI arrests CE/SECR and 3 others in ₹32 lakh bribery case

CBI exposes corruption nexus between Railway Officials & Private Contractors

A case was registered by the #CBI against four accused including #VishalAnand, #IRSE-200batch officer presently Chief Engineer (CE) of South East Central Railways, Bilaspur; a relative of the CE Vishal Anand, a private company; accused Managing Director of the private company; employee of said private company and unknown others.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended four accused including accused IRSE-2000, Chief Engineer (CE) of South East Central Railways (#SECR), Bilaspur, his family member, Managing Director of a private firm and employee of the said private firm immediately after a bribe of ₹32 lakh was received by said family member of the accused Chief Engineer Vishal Anand from representative of a private company in lieu of favouring the firm in the contracts and work orders executed by it in SECR.

A case was registered by CBI against four accused including IRSE-2000 officer presently Chief Engineer (CE) Vishal Anand of SECR, Bilaspur; a private company; accused #ManagingDirector of the private company; employee of said private company and unknown others.

It was alleged that accused CE/SECR, Bilaspur in connivance with private persons all belonging to accused firm were indulging in corrupt activities of obtaining bribe money from the private contractor in lieu of favouring the firm in the contracts and work orders executed by it in SECR. It was also alleged that accused Chief Engineer (IRSE-2000 officer) had instructed his family member to receive the bribe amount on his behalf in Ranchi.

It was further alleged that accused private company was executing various work orders for South East Central Railways, Bilaspur including construction of minor and major bridges, Railway Over Bridges (ROB), Railway Under Bridges (RUB), capacity enhancement work, track lining work, etc.

Accused Managing Director of the private company allegedly informed his son on 21.04.2025 that as per the direction of accused CE, he would be meeting him in his office at Bilaspur. After meeting accused CE, said Managing Director told his son that the quantum of bribe money has been decided that they have to deliver ₹32 lakh (approx.) to accused CE to finalise the pending matters in favour of their firm.

It has also been alleged that accused Managing Director of the said private company instructed his company’s employee to deliver a sum of Rs.32 lakh to accused CE’s family member in Ranchi, the native town of accused CE Vishal Anand. The public servant had allegedly informed his family member that one person would be coming to Ranchi to deliver the bribe money.

CBI laid a trap today i.e. 25.04.2025 and caught accused CE after his family member had accepted a bribe of Rs. 32 lakh from other accused belonging to the accused private firm. The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of CE’s family member by CBI Team.

Searches are being conducted at several places including in #Bilaspur and #Ranchi, #Chhattisgarh. Several incriminating documents and cash has been recovered so far during the searches so far. Investigation is continuing.
