Delhi Stampede: How higher width of FOBs would have helped is debatable

Some officials are saying that if the width of the foot over bridge (#FOB) at New Delhi Railway Station was more and there were ramps then the stampede incident would not have happened. #Railway had also floated tender for its #construction earlier, but no work was done. Who is responsible?

On above question traffic & commercial officers said, “how higher width of #FOBs would have helped is debatable as it would perhaps only help in shifting point of stampede. Handling melas vs running regular operations of trains are different”.

“It is similar to be able to handle more guests on a wedding reception than to handle more guests at home. In melas we are open to spend very high amount of financial and non-financial resources for an event, while we do not do that on day-today operations”, they said.

They explain, Problem with #IndianRailways is that of leadership-whatever infra problems remain today are due to this. Delhi stampede and CBI arrests all over the country is symptomatic of larger issue-culture of railway working. This culture is result of continuous rewarding of unprofessional and unethical conduct.

Readiness with which top 100 leadership roles are lapped by officers who are keen for #house_retention is mere reflection of that. There is no rational reason as to why a #DRM or #GM or #Member or #Chairman/RlyBd needs to retain official residence at previous place of posting.

This is highly problematic. Punishment or disincentive to do honest work vs sustained reward and protection to racketeers is what has hollowed Indian Railways.

#CRB should not be issuing instructions on how measurements should be done, nor should be giving micro instructions on clearing of bio-toilets. There are entire directorates for these in #RailBhawan and #RDSO-why CRB is incapable of acting against them?

Every position has a role and that role should be done by that person only. #RailwayBoard cannot step in shoes of #Zones or #Divisions.

CRB’s next #Safety meeting would be keenly watched, observers say. All bypassed for L-16/#IRMS are keenly watching as to how those who bypassed them are faring.

Also, it would be watched as to is linkedin, social media or google sheet performance of #KMG starlets would be given premium or the epidemic acts of #corruption, its reward and protection would be held to account.

After sacrificing #DRMDLI for stampede, an All India Prayagraj Service (#AIPS) officer has been posted. It remains to be seen that officers like DRMBRC, DRMADI, DRMDDU and their SDGMs & GMs who collectively contributed to stampede of careers of thousands of railwaymen would be held to account or CRB finds his hand restrained.
