CJI rips into the lawyers representing farmers for not taking Court seriously
Chief Justice of India (CJI) justice Mr Bobde slammed the four lawyers representing the farmers – Prashant Bhushan and three others for not taking court seriously.
The four lawyers had told the court that they would return to court in 24 hours to inform whether the farmers wanted to appear before the committee constituted by the court on their grievances or not.
On this, CJI Mr Bobde scolded Bhushan, Phoolka and other lawyers that as members of the bar, they are the executive officers of the court first and then the lawyers of farmers.
“Members of the bar, who are first officers of the court and then lawyers for their clients, are expected to show loyalty (to the court), said CJI Mr Bobde.
He also said, “You will appear before the court when it suits you! And if it doesn’t, you won’t! You can’t do that, understand”.
CJI Mr Bobde also told the lawyers that their clients (farmers association) will not be allowed to organise the tractor march on Republic Day.
“If you (farmers) want to solve the problem, you can do it by talking and negotiating. Otherwise, you can agitate for years,” said the CJI.
