It is the duty of Railway Unions/Federations to lead the workmen
For the last ten days the Farmers, from at least two states, showed the Nation how to dissent and made the government to hear their legitimate grievances.
Compared to the Agricultural Bills the changes in Labour Acts are more detrimental to Labours rights and nothing was done against it except a few token protests from certain unions here and there.
Being the biggest trade unions in the country, it is the duty of the Railway Unions/Federations to lead the workmen in such pan India issues.
Unfortunately the leaders of the major Railway unions and Federations have done nothing in this regard till date.
Their inaction is not surprising as majority if not all of them are happily retired and interested in enjoying perks that came with respective posts they held.
Also, many of them have accumulated huge amounts of wealth syphoning money from Railway Societies and by way of commissions etc and they are not ready to displease the government in any way let alone to lead a strike against it.
It is high time that the smaller trade unions decide to join together and move against the blatant changes in Labour acts instead of expecting their bigger counterparts in Railways to lead their way.
