Restoration of uprooted trees in Cyclone hit SER campus at headquarters, Garden Reach

Kolkata: South Eastern Railway has taken major initiative on an urgent basis for restoration of trees and re-greening of SER Headquarters Campus after the Cyclone Amphan.

The entire campus of SER Headquarters at Garden Reach, Kolkata has been badly damaged due to Cyclone Amphan which swept over Kolkata and suburbs on 20th May, 2020.

The Headquarters of SER has many century old trees and is renowned for its greenery all around. But many of the trees have been uprooted or badly damaged after the Cyclone Amphan hit Kolkata.

Sanjay Kumar Mohanty, General Manager, South Eastern Railway along with other Senior Officers visited the ravaged SER campus on 21st May 2020 after the Cyclone.

It was decided to replant as many trees as possible. A team of experts consisting of horticulturists have been deployed for replantation and restoration of trees.

A total number of 237 trees have been uprooted/tilted during the Cyclone. Till now 102 trees have been restored, out of which, 82 trees have been restored mechanically and 20 trees have been restored manually.

Another 80 trees have been supported by rope or wooden poles. The drive is continuing to restore as many trees as possible to bring back the greenery.
