Vigilance caught the trick used for VIP quota

Mumbai: On the basis of source information, a surprise check was conducted by #CentralRailway Vigilance in train no. 12322, CSMT-HWH, Kolkata Mail on aspect of misuse of head office (HO) quota—popularly known as VIP Quota—by touts using fake signature of Railway officials.

#Vigilance team boarded in the said train from Kalyan and entered in sleeper class coach no. S-2 as per information and checked the six suspected passengers who were travelling on reserved tickets and alloted berths No. 18, 21, 22, 25, 26 & 27 through HO quota.

During the investigation it was found that among six passengers, one was travelling on the name of other passenger. The said passenger was charged accordingly and other five passengers were found travelling with valid ID proof and their credentials were matched with tickets.

During the check it was revealed that they had paid extra amount to a person of #CSMT station who provided them confirmed reservation tickets. All six ticket were seized by vigilance team for further scrutiny.

Caught the offender

Accordingly statements of #Passengers were taken and on the basis of information collected from above passengers vigilance team caught the person who provided them confirmed tickets through HO quota. Also departmentally known as Emergency quota (EQ).

Later the said person was identified Ravindra Kumar Sahu working in guard canteen CSMT located at 4th floor of Traffic Accounts building above the platform no. 7. During the check stamps of four different Railway officers of different departments were found with him.

Modus Operandi

Sahu used to fill the details of #PNR on requisition forms/applications and signed with fake signature of officers along with fake stamp and signature hence use to drop it in the box kept at #DRM Office for allotment of emergency quota (EQ) cell.

Further, he accepted that he is doing business of Railway tickets and providing confirm tickets through HO quota to customers.

From the history of his UPI transaction, around Rs 1 to 1.5 lakh/month transactions were found.

On the basis of investigation and collected evidences from the said person, he has been handed over to #RPF/CSMT for necessary action as per extant provision of Railway Act.
