Kerala Silverline imbroglio
This is a really strong case by KRDCL for BG for the Silverline! How do KRDCL/SYSTRA defend their U-turn to Standard Gauge!! What new developments/facts caused this change? Truly, confounding !!!
To anyhow justify Standard Gauge, Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL) has been irresponsibly claiming that BG technology is not available in India.
But, in their 2018 Feasibility Report on the basis of which KRDCL took Railway Board’s approval for “standalone elevated corridor”, KRDCL strongly proposed Broad Gauge.
Read the following extract from their report
“Presently there is no semi speed service in India. It is learned that Indian Railway have planned to introduce BG train sets in a couple of years in selected Routes..
Multinational Companies like Bombardier and Alstom are having full fledge factories in India to supply customized train sets..
Indian Railways is also planning to procure through global tender in tie up with ICF Chennai.
It is one of the aims of this project plan that all technology and Rolling stock is to be indigenously acquired since this project may take about 7-8 years, by the time train sets may be a common feature in India.
Thus all sort of import duties, levies, special license, etc., can be avoided”.
The above is a really strong case by KRDCL for BG for the Silverline!

Truly, confounding, said Alok Kumar Verma, former chief engineer, Northern Railway in thread on Twitter !!!
