CBI Books SSE/Works for Demanding Monthly Bribe Near Jogeshwari Station
MUMBAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation’s Anti-Corruption Branch (CBI-ACB), Mumbai, has registered a regular corruption case against Western Railway’s Senior Section Engineer (Works), Ashish Yadav, for allegedly extorting bribes from a local businessman under the threat of demolishing his shop.
The case stems from a complaint lodged on August 21, 2026, by Jitendra Laxmansingh Thakur, a resident of Jogeshwari East. Thakur owns a salon shop named M/s Bajrang near Jogeshwari railway station, which is currently rented out. According to the CBI FIR, Yadav approached the premises identifying himself as a railway officer and claimed the shop fell within the railway boundary.
He initially demanded ₹20,000 per month to prevent the structure from being demolished. Following multiple negotiations, the demand was reduced first to ₹10,000 and eventually fixed at ₹8,000 per month, with the officer demanding an immediate payment of ₹16,000 covering the months of June and July 2026.
The complainant alleged that Yadav visited again on August 19, claiming that he regularly collects money from everyone in the locality and reiterated the threat of demolition if the amount was not paid.
Unwilling to comply, Thakur approached the CBI. On the same day, CBI officials conducted an independent verification of the allegations in the presence of two panch witnesses from the CGST and Central Excise Department, Bhiwandi. The verification confirmed prima facie that the SSE had demanded undue financial advantage and agreed to accept the ₹16,000 bribe.
Following the verification, SP/CBI-ACB, B. B. Chakravarthy ordered the registration of a Regular Case (RC0262026A0017) against Ashish Yadav on August 24, 2026, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) via Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The investigation has been handed over to CBI Police Inspector Anup Kumar Meena.
