New Initiatives
In a significant boost to its freight operations, Central Railway has successfully commenced the first-ever loading of automobiles from the newly notified Igatpuri Goods Shed recently.
The inaugural indent for this service was placed by M/s Transport Corporation of India Ltd (#TCOI), marking a new chapter in logistical efficiency for the region.
A total of 100 cars from the Mahindra & Mahindra plant in Nashik were loaded for transportation in 25 NMG (New Modified Goods) wagons, specifically designed for the safe and efficient transport of vehicles.
These rakes bound for Nautanwa Goods Terminal in North Eastern Railway are expected to generate a revenue of approximately ₹17.16 lakhs per rake.
By utilizing the Igatpuri Goods Shed, Central Railway provides a more accessible and streamlined loading point for manufacturers in the Nashik industrial belt, reducing lead times and logistical overheads.
Central Railway through its various measures to facilitate transportation of goods has ensured:
- Transportation of Coal, petroleum products, Iron & Steel, Iron Ore etc ensuring continuous supply to Industries, Power Plants etc.
- Transportation of Cement facilitating infrastructure development by supply to construction hubs, reducing logistics cost and ensuring steady availability.
- Transportation of automobiles providing end-to-end solutions for the automotive industry by transporting vehicles directly from manufacturing hubs to distribution terminals. This shift from road to rail reduces carbon emissions and highway congestion.
- Transportation of fertilizers ensuring steady supply for the agricultural sector supporting food production and farming activities.
- Transportation of foodgrains enabling large scale distribution under public welfare schemes, supply of foodgrains from surplus to deficit areas and has proved to be cost effective compared to roadways.
- Timely movement of onions from producing regions to major markets, reducing spoilage, helping stabilize prices by improving supply and support farmers by providing access to distant higher markets.
Central Railway thus plays a vital role in economic growth by enabling fast, economical, and large-scale movement of essential & industrial commodities across different destinations.
