These MEMU trains will offer better travel options for students and professionals, improve connectivity, and boost the region’s economy
Delhi (PIB): Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, along with Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, flagged off two new MEMU train services between Delhi and Shamli at Baraut station on Monday, 24 November 2025. The event was graced by the presence of Rajya Sabha MP from Baghpat, Rajkumar Sangwan; former MP Dr. Satyapal Singh; Legislative Council member Mohit Beniwal; MLA Krishan Pal Malik; and Chairperson of Baraut Municipality, Babita Tomar.
Addressing the large gathering, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Under the able guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Indian Railways is continuously striving to provide better services to passengers. The introduction of two new MEMU services between Delhi and Shamli will greatly benefit daily commuters, students, farmers, and professionals by improving mobility. He informed that Shamli station is being redeveloped into a modern, world-class station at a cost of ₹25 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The long-pending demand of the Shamli–Baghpat region is being fulfilled today with the inauguration of these two MEMU trains, which will make travel easier for the people of this region.”
The announcement of doubling the Delhi–Shamli section was warmly welcomed by the huge crowd present at Baraut station, who greeted it with applause. Leaders on the stage also expressed their gratitude to Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw for fulfilling the long-standing demand of the region.
Shri Vaishnaw further said that after 2014, 5,272 km of new railway tracks have been laid in Uttar Pradesh—equivalent to the total rail network of Switzerland. The railway network in Uttar Pradesh has been fully electrified. Additionally, since 2014, 1,460 flyovers and road underbridges have been constructed in the state. To enhance passenger amenities, 154 lifts and 156 escalators have been installed at various stations, and Wi-Fi facilities have been provided at 771 stations. Currently, 34 Vande Bharat Express and 26 Amrit Bharat Express trains are operational in Uttar Pradesh.
