Indian Railways Ticket Checking Staff to Mark Digital Attendance
Biometric Sign-On/Off for Ticket Checking Employees
This will improve the overall passenger experience
New Delhi: #IndianRailways has introduced a new biometric sign-on and sign-off system for its ticket checking staff, marking a significant step towards modernization of railway operations and enhanced accountability. On 29.08.25, the first digital #TTE lobby became operational at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction under East Central Railway.
This innovative system has already been successfully implemented at the Varanasi Division of North Eastern Railway, Sonepur Division of East Central Railway, Ratlam Division of Western Railway, CSMT, Pune and Solapur TTE lobbies of Central Railway, Malda Division of Eastern Railway, Mysuru Division of South Western Railway, Bhopal Division of West Central Railway, Madurai, Palghat and Trichy of Southern Railway, and Kota lobby of West Central Railway.
North Central Railway, North Eastern Railway and North Western Railway zones have also rolled out the system in various divisions in a phased manner. The Jammu Division of Northern Railway is set to implement it soon.
The new system integrates biometric authentication with the TTE lobby system, allowing employees to authenticate themselves using Aadhaar-enabled biometric devices. This ensures a tamper-proof, transparent, and privacy-compliant attendance process that accurately records working hours and duty status in real time.
Key objectives of the biometric system:
- Authentic Attendance: Ensures attendance records are accurate and verifiable.
- Real-Time Tracking: Provides real-time data on employee availability and duty status, enabling more efficient management.
- Enhanced Monitoring: Allows effective supervision of working hours and lobby operations.
- Seamless Integration: Integrated with handheld terminals (HHTs) and duty rosters for streamlined staff deployment.
The implementation of this system demonstrates Indian Railways’ commitment to improving efficiency and transparency. The #biometric sign-on/off system will not only streamline staff deployment but also significantly enhance the #efficiency, #transparency, and #accountability of ticket checking staff—ultimately improving the travel experience for all passengers.
