Central Railway faces the challenge-runs uninterrupted train services in spite of heavy rains
Trains are the life-line of the Mumbai Metropolitan city, especially the suburban services (#local trains) ferrying lakhs of passengers everyday.
Mumbai rains are also known to be so heavy at times that it often leads to water logging, flooding of roads and also disruption of train services.
A red alert has been issued in the city with areas like Dadar, Matunga, Sion , Kurla, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Kanjurmarg, Mulund, Mankhurd and Panvel receiving heavy rainfall with Vikhroli having received more than 200 mm rainfall on Monday, 18.08.2025, till now.
In the leadership of Dharamvir Meena, GM/CR and direction of Hiresh Meena, DRM/Mumbai, #CentralRailway has continued to run uninterrupted suburban services in spite of the heavy rains due to the extensive pre-monsoon works carried out by Mumbai Division leaving no stone unturned in ensuring seamless #Train operations and #Safety across its extensive network.
Despite continuous heavy rainfall from morning today, between #CSMT and #Kalyan, local services are running smoothly on Central Railway.

- Enhanced Pumping Infrastructure: Ensuring effective & continuous pump operations at vulnerable locations.
- Effective management of Flood gates: Ensuring timely opening / closing of flood gates to avoid flooding of railway areas.
- Making small temporary drains if required: Ensuring making new small drains for quick draining as and when the situation demands.
- Water logging was reported at low lying areas viz. Mankhurd, Govandi, Kurla and Tilak Nagar leading to a delay of train services by 5 to 8 minutes on the Harbour line.
- Services on the Main line were also delayed by 10 to 12 minutes owing to low visibility on account of heavy rains across various sections.

All concerned #Railwaymen are on alert and continuously monitoring the situation, trying to reduce all possibilities of water logging, flooding, loose joints / connection or faults in spite of incessant rains to ensure safe and secure travel of passengers.
