CBI books former PCME/CR and his relative in ₹3.64 crore bribery & cheating case
Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (#CBI) has registered a case against the former Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer (#PCME), Central Railway, #AKGupta and his relative after the agency received information about several instances of undue advantages received by the public servant.
The agency sources claimed that the public servant in conspiracy with his relative used to collect #bribe money from the various #contractors executing #Tender under #CentralRailway and divert the same to various companies floated by the relative at Ghaziabad / NCR Delhi. It is revealed that the said relative collected and managed ₹3.64 crore on behalf of the accused public servant.
According to the CBI, information was received that the accused private person, who is a relative of retired #PCME identified as A. K. Gupta used to allegedly manage his bribe money by converting cash to RTGS.
It is also alleged that PCME had also received an i-Phone-13 on 22.09.2022 amounting to ₹65,900 from a private person. The payment of the i-phone-13 was made by the said private person on 21.09.2022 from his credit card.
“It is further revealed that after receipt of the same, the then PCME had applied for reimbursement of ₹65,900 for the said i-Phone-13. The cost of said handset was never paid by him. He hereby tried to cheat the Railways,” a CBI official said.
“It is further alleged that on the demand of PCME, an official of a private company had arranged a trip to Ranthambore National Park for then PCME Gupta and his wife in June, 2022 and the entire expenses were borne by the company.”
A case has been registered by the CBI recently on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and obtaining illegal gratification under the provisions of Indian Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act.
