Stampede doesn’t happen inside trains, it happens on stations
“Changing platforms in face of unique rush is an unpardonable crime. There have been stampedes at many places before also including Lucknow, Patna etc.. There were categorical instructions prohibiting this. COM/Station Superintendent and ASM at the panel are personally responsible for the tragedy”. -GM (Rtd.)
“It is very unwise to run #Kumbh Specials from New Delhi Railway Station, capital’s busiest station. All Specials should have been planned from #Safdarjang, where enough Platforms exist. There are still 10 days for Kumbh to conclude. We are not launching satellites, it is shame that we are utterly failing in our basic duty as Railwaymen”. -PCPO (Rtd.)
“Railway officers think that only running of trains is their responsibility. Let them know that station management, crowd control, and circulating area management is also their responsibility that is even more important. Stampede doesn’t happen inside trains, it happens on stations”, said a senior officer.
Questions that should be asked:
- How are #Lucknow and #Prayagraj DRMs, with much smaller machineries able to successfully handle bigger crowds at dozens of stations in their areas?
- Why can’t DRM/Delhi handle just one station?
- What is the role of #NorthernRailway Headquarters and #RailwayBoard Officers in these days of heavy rush? All of them should be held responsible.
- What was the so-called dedicated #StationDirector doing? Why has he not been questioned, let alone suspended immediately? When he is doing his #MBA on regular basis and attending classes on second half of every day absconding from his office then this mismanagement must be happened.
- How does the #StationManager/New Delhi Railway Station, a gazetted officer, fit into all this?
- UP government authorities are engaging on a daily basis for managing crowds and smooth flow of #traffic in #Prayagraj, #Ayodhya, and #Varanasi cities and on #roads leading to them and away from them. What are Railway officers doing?
