Jamshedpur-Purulia-Asansol 3rd line project approved by the Cabinet for Rail-Infra expansion

Kolkata: To bolster the connectivity and speed up the movement of goods & passenger traffic, the Cabinet has approved Jamashedpur-Purulia-Asansol 3rd Line Project (121 Km) at a total cost of ₹2,170 crore.

This newly approved project will strengthen a critical link in the #Railway-network between #WestBengal and #Jharkhand.

The 3rd Line project will cover the districts of #Purulia and #Bardhhaman in West Bengal and #East-Singhbhum in Jharkhand. The #Jamshedpur-#Asansol 3rd Line #Project will include 17 stations in West Bengal and 2 stations in Jharkhand.

The 3rd rail-line will pass through 18 major bridges and 142 minor bridges. The project is expected to be completed in 5 years.

Benefits:

  • This project will improve connectivity between major trunk routes, Delhi-Howrah & Howrah-Mumbai
  • The 3rd line will expedite the transportation of iron ore and coal to the Steel plants at Burnpur and Durgapur and finished steel movement from the plants
  • The project is in vicinity to tourist destinations (Maithan Dam and Churilia) & pilgrimage centres (KaIyaneswari Temple and Ghagar Buri Chandi Temple)
