Several complaints were made against the Management of the Chennai Society but nothing has been done by the Railway administration
The Railways are taking a stand that the Societies are seperate legal entities and they don’t have anything to do with them
The Railways should geographically clarify the business areas of each and every Railway Societies in India
In the past, several complaints were made against the Management of the Chennai Society with concern to its aggressive membership campaigning of admitting Railway employees who were also members of other Railway Societies.
Though such dual memberships are illegal, nothing was done by the Railway administration who went on with deduction of recoveries of Chennai Society from the Railway employees at the same time when the recoveries of other Societies were deducted from their salaries.
In the Chennai Society, which is being run by a cartel from Chennai division, headed by the general secretary of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU), there is no representation from South Central Railway (SCR) in the board of directors at present.
Leaders of the other Unions say that, “It is surprising that the Railways are taking a stand that the Societies are seperate legal entities and they don’t have anything to do with them whenever there are complaints of any illegalities against the Management of such Societies are now poking their heads and nose out to help them to recover the money from the poor railway men.”
He says, “It is high time that Railways should geographically clarify the business areas of each and every Railway Societies in India so that there won’t be any difficulties for the Railway Men in future even when they are transferred from one zone to another”.
