Proposal for the Circular Route Passenger Train Services Reg.
Presently, the Railways operate separate passenger train services on the Nagercoil–Trivandrum, Tirunelveli–Sengottai, Kollam–Punalur, and Trivandrum–Kollam sections under the control of the #Trivandrum and #Madurai Divisions.
Kanyakumari District Railway Users’ Association (#KKDRUA) suggest that, since these routes are already operational, instead of running short-route trains, they can be consolidated and extended into #circular-routes starting from each terminal station in the morning.
The proposed circular routes are as follows:
- Tirunelveli – Sengottai – Kollam – Trivandrum – Nagercoil – Tirunelveli Circular passenger Train
#KKDRUA request the extension and integration of the existing passenger trains—56741 (Tirunelveli–Sengottai), Kollam–Trivandrum Passenger, Trivandrum–Nagercoil Passenger, and 56707 (Nagercoil–Tirunelveli)—to operate as a single circular train service: Tirunelveli – Sengottai – Kollam – Trivandrum – Nagercoil – Tirunelveli.
- Tirunelveli – Nagercoil – Trivandrum – Kollam – Sengottai – Tirunelveli Circular Passenger
#KKDRUA request the extension and integration of the existing passenger trains—56708 (Tirunelveli–Nagercoil), 56305 (Nagercoil–Trivandrum North), and 56744 (Sengottai–Tirunelveli)—to operate as a single circular train service: Tirunelveli – Nagercoil – Trivandrum – Kollam – Sengottai – Tirunelveli.
#Note: This proposal pertains only to the currently operational trains and does not involve the introduction of any additional trains.
The above suggestions offer the following benefits for passengers and Southern Railways:
- Reduction in platform congestion at all terminal stations.
- Utilisation of idle rakes at these stations.
- Convenience for passengers, who can purchase a single ticket at one station instead of buying tickets at multiple stations, saving time.
- Elimination of the need to reverse trains or engines, reducing operational costs.
- Decreased train maintenance challenges.
- Enhanced utility for tourists and pilgrims, given the high tourism potential of this route.
KKDRUA, therefore, kindly request Ministry of Railways and Southern Railway to take appropriate and favorable action to the benefit of the passengers and earnings points of view for railways to implement these circular train services at the earliest possible time.
