SER’s parcel express trains carried 6108 tonnes of parcel traffic during Feb’21

Generated revenue of Rs. 1.98 crore

Kolkata: To offer safe, secured, economical and environment friendly mode of transportation, South Eastern Railway started running Parcel Express trains from 04.04.2020 mainly from three stations – Howrah, Shalimar and Kharagpur.

The Parcel Express trains are running towards many important places across the country like Porbandar, Mumbai CSMT, Ahmedabad, Yesvantpur, Dimapur etc. on different nominated days.

During the month of February 2021, total 6108 tonnes of parcel traffic has been transported generating revenue of Rs. 1.98 crore by the SER.

The main commodities loaded were cycle, flowers, fruits, medical equipment, steel trunk, raw material for different industries, grocery goods, fish, spare parts of machinery, eggs, baby food, scooty, etc.

In terms of transportation time and cost effectiveness, Parcel Express trains are cheaper than road transport and are more safe & secured.

For convenience of the customers, the minimum composition of Parcel Express Train has been reduced from 20 parcel vans to 15 and 10 parcel vans for perishables and others.

Moreover, the enroute stoppages have been increased as per demand.

Running of Parcel Express Trains facilitate uninterrupted supply chain to meet the demand in the market of the country.

The growth of parcel business is very important as these services are used by small traders and businessmen.

South Eastern Railway aims at steep growth in parcel business and exploring more innovative ways to bring the desired growth.

Parcel Express trains have gained customers’ confidence for the fixed schedule of run.
