Central Railway: Alert pointsman saves the life of a girl child

Cash award of Rs. 50,000 announced by the MR Piyush Goyal for the act of Bravery, Courage and Presence of Mind displayed by pointsman Mayur Shelke
A Pointsman working at Vangani railway station of Mumbai Division, Central Railway Mayur Sakharam Shelke with his courageous act saved the life of a 6 years old girl child putting himself in a very danger position.
In an incident on 17.4.2021 at about 18.25 hrs Mayur S. Shelke, while performing his duty at Vangani station on Mumbai Division of Central Railway saw a child fallen on track and trying to climb up on platform. The child was so small that he was unable to climb the platform.
At same time Train No. 01302, Udyan Express was approaching on the same track speedily.
Mayur Shelke, immediately swung into action and jumped on the track and ran towards the child. He lifted the child and pushed him on the platform and then he himself climbed on the platform just in a fraction of second.
Thus his timely action and presence of mind saved the life of a child.
While walking on the platform along with his mother the child was fallen on the track, but later on, it has come to the notice that the mother was visually impaired and she was unable to save her child. She desperately shouted for his life.
Piyush Goyal, Minister for Railways appreciated and personally spoke to Mayur Shelke for the courage shown by him in saving the life of child.
He also said that his work cannot be compared to any prize or money, but he will be rewarded for inspiring humanity with his work.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray personally called to Mayur Shelke and appreciated his courageous work even endangering his own life.
Sanjeev Mittal, General Manager, Central Railway and Shalabh Goel, Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Division and all officers, unions and employees also appreciated Mayur Shelke for his courageous act.
MR Award for examplary act of Bravery
Mayur Shelke, pointsman has displayed exceptional courage in saving a precious life by rescuing a child who has accidentally slipped and fallen on tracks from the platform. Shelke in absolute of disregard of his own life rescued the child by running in face of the oncoming train and lifted the child to safety by placing on the platform.
The Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal has announced an award of Rs. 50,000 for the act of Bravery, Courage and Presence of Mind displayed by pointsman Mayur Shelke. The order of in this regard issued by the Railway Board on 20th April, 2020.
LPM should also appreciated
This should also be appreciate that the loco pilot mail (LPM) Jahangir of the train no. 01302, Udyan Express, who applied emergency brakes immediately after seeing the person on track, cannot be ignored, which provide few more seconds for pointsman Mayur Shelke who able to save the girl child and himself.
