CBI arrests GM/NHAI for taking ₹20 lakh bribe, ₹1.10 crore cash recovered

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (#CBI) has arrested six persons including two senior officials of National Highway Authority of India (#NHAI) besides two directors of a private company in a bribery-trap operation. ₹1.10 crore has been recovered till now in the searches that followed the arrests.

The arrested officials were identified as #ArvindKale, General Manager and Project Director at NHAI, and #BrijeshSahu, a Deputy GM with the authority at Harda, Madhya Pradesh. Some other senior officials of NHAI are also under the scanner, sources said.

Others in #CBI net are #AnilBansal and #KunalBansal, both directors of #BansalConstructionWorks Pvt Ltd, alleged #bribe giver #CKrishna and #ChhaterLodhi, both of the employee of the private firm.

CBI spokesperson R.C.Joshi said that the agency had registered a case against four public servants of NHAI, a Bhopal based private company and five of its employees on allegations that the directors of the private company had been delivering bribes to various public servants of NHAI through their employees in lieu of issuance of completion certificates, processing of bills, smooth progression of awarded works, etc. in various road projects awarded by the NHAI.

“It was further alleged that an employee of said company was in regular contact with the General Manager & Project Director, #NHAI, #PIU, #Nagpur for clearing pending matters including processing of pending bills and issuance of completion certificate, in lieu of bribe, for Project Outer Ring Road,” the spokesperson added.

It also came to fore that the employees of the private company delivers bribes to the public servants not only in Nagpur but at different locations in Madhya Pradesh as well.

In one perticular case, it was alleged that a #bribe of ₹25 lakh was likely to be delivered to the General Manager & Project Director after which the #CBI laid a #trap and apprehended the accused #GM and the bribe giver with ₹20 lakh cash.

Searches were conducted at different offices and residences of accused including at #Nagpur, #Bhopal and #Harda. “Cash of ₹1.10 including the trap money have been recovered/seized so far alongwith other incriminating documents, digital devices, etc. during searches. Further investigation is continuing,” the spokesperson added.
