CBI arrests DyCE & SSE of NFR including a contractor, and recovers Rs. 1.02 crore in bribery of Rs. 8 lakh

CBI ARRESTS TWO OFFICIALS OF NORTHEAST FRONTIER RAILWAY INCLUDING DyCE, SSE & A CONTRACTOR IN BRIBERY OF Rs. 8 LAKH AND RECOVERS Rs. 1.02 CRORE (APPROX.) DURING SEARCHES.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (#CBI) has arrested a Deputy Chief Engineer Rampal and a Senior Section Engineer (SSE) Santosh Kumar, both of Northeast Frontier Railway (#NFR) and Sajjan Chaudhary, contractor and the owner of a private company M/s Tribeni Constructions based at Guwahati (Assam) in a bribery of Rs. 8 lakh (approx) today, on 6th February, 2023.

CBI has registered a case against four officials of Northeast Frontier Railway and others including Contractor of a private company & employees of said private company.

It was alleged that the said public servants alongwith private persons entered into a conspiracy for showing undue favours to the private contractors in award of contract agreement, preparation of Measurement Book, processing of running Account Bills, early release of payment against manipulated and inflated bills for the ongoing work of construction in Northeast Frontier Railway as well as for early release of Security Deposit & Bank Guarantees.

CBI laid a trap and caught the said SSE, Santo Kumar, Silchar (Assam) while accepting part payment of Rs. 8 lakh – in a 2 crore bribery case – from the Employee of M/s Tribeni Constructions, a private company.

Searches were conducted at around 19 locations including at Assam, Imphal, Delhi, Bihar and Haryana at the premises of the accused and others which led to recovery of Rs. 1.02 crore (approx.). It includes recovery of Rs 67 lakh from the in-laws of arrested Deputy Chief Engineer Rampal. In its FIR registered against nine people, the CBI has alleged that Tribeni Constructions had submitted a bill of Rs. 19 crore in one of the projects.

The amount included the inflated sum of Rs 2 crore by manipulation in collusion with Rampal, Santosh Kumar and other accused public servants, out of which Rs 20 lakh was already given to the DyCE Rampal, Rs 35 lakh to Assistant Executive Engineer B. U. Laskar (another accused), and Rs 36 lakh of bribe money was to be handed over to Santosh Kumar, the FIR alleged.

All the arrested accused were produced before the Competent Court. The Deputy Chief Engineer and the said Contractor were remanded to 5 days Police Custody while the SSE is on 3 days Transit Remand.
