Prime Minister to lay foundation stone, dedicate railway projects and flag off new trains on 12th March

Kolkata: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to lay Foundation Stone, dedicate Railway projects worth over ₹85,000 crore on 12th March 2024. In this regard, Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager, South Eastern Railway held a Press Conference at #SER Headquarters, Garden Reach, Kolkata on 10.03.2024.
In a major boost to Railways’ infrastructure and connectivity, Prime Minister on Tuesday, March 12th, 2024, to lay foundation stone, dedicate various railway projects (about 6000 nos.) worth over ₹85,000 Crore to nation.
#PMModi to dedicate Dedicated Freight Corridor (#DFC) between New Khurja to Sahnewal section, New Makarpura to New Gholvad section and Operation Control Centre of Western DFC at Ahmedabad.
PM to flag off 10 new #VandeBharat trains, Extension of 4 Vande Bharat Trains and other trains
Vande Bharat Trains
- As on 31st January, 2024, 82 Vande Bharat train services are operating across the Indian Railways, connecting states having Broad Gauge (BG) electrified network. These Vande Bharat Express trains touches 24 States & 256 Districts.
- With the introduction of 10 more Vande Bharat trains (10 pairs), 102 services (51 pairs) will be operational across Indian Railways.
Ranchi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Express
6 days week (Except Thursdays) Timing- Ranchi (Dep) – 05.10 hrs. Varanasi (Arr.)- 13.00 hrs.
Varanasi (Dep) – 16.05 hrs. Ranchi (Arr.)- 23.55 hrs.
Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (#PMBJK)
- In the pursuit to enhance wellness and welfare of passengers visiting railway stations, Indian Railways conceptualized a policy framework to establish Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) in circulating areas and concourses of stations which are operated by Licensees.
- The objectives to establish PMBJKs at Railway stations are as under:
a. Promote Government of India’s mission to make available quality medicines and consumables (Janaushadhi products) to all at affordable price.
b. Enable passengers/visitors at railway stations to easily access Janaushadhi products.
c. Enhance wellness and welfare among all sections of the society by providing medicines at affordable prices.
d. Create employment opportunities and generate avenues for entrepreneurs for opening PMBJK.

PM Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals for multimodal logistics facilities:
- In pursuance to Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of “Gati Shakti” and Ministry of Railways’ Policy regarding ‘Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal’ (GCT) launched on 15th December, 2021, Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals are being developed for handling rail cargos.

Rail coach restaurants
- For providing a unique dining ambience to the passengers, Indian Railway has been opening Rail Coach Restaurants at its major stations and points.
- This initiative is capturing the attention of travellers seeking a unique culinary encounter.
- The Rail coach restaurant aims to cater to the needs of passengers and the public apart from generating non-fare revenue for railways.
- This initiative of Indian Railway is also expected to create employment for both skilled and unskilled workers.

One Station One Product’ Outlets
- Ministry of Railways has launched “One Station One Product” (#OSOP) scheme with objective to promote the ‘Vocal for Local’ vision of the Government of India, provide a market for local/indigenous products and create additional income opportunities for the marginalized sections of the society.
- This scheme aims to provide enhanced opportunities for livelihood to local artisans, potters, weavers /handloom weavers, craftsmen etc, through provision of sale outlets at Railways Stations across the Country.

Goods Sheds
- Aiming at augmenting terminal capacity of new goods-shed facilities and developing existing goods-sheds at a larger number of stations

New Lines
- 14,985 route kilometers of rail track work was done during 2004-14.
- 25,871 route kilometers of track has been laid in the last 9 years (2014-23). This is an increase of 75% in new railway lines.
- 14 km track was laid per day in the year 2022-23 and the target is to lay 16 km track per day in the year 2023-24.
- Since 2014, 14,337 km of railway line doubling work has been taken up.
- Gauge conversion of 5,750 km length has been initiated since 2014.
