Govt of India will release a postage stamp on the occasion of Centenary Year of AIRF

New Delhi: A postage stamp will be issued by the Government of India on 27 February 2024 on the occasion of the centenary year of All India Railway Men’s Federation (#AIRF).

While addressing the press conference, General Secretary of All India Railway Men’s Federation (AIRF), Shiva Gopal Mishra said that it is a matter of great pride for us that #AIRF is celebrating its “Centenary Year”. AIRF was established on 24th April 1924 and this Federation is completing its 100 years on 24 April 2024.

General Secretary Shri Mishra further said that on the occasion of this glorious and historic moment, on 27th February 2024, the #PostageStamp will be released by the the Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw from Karnail Singh Railway Stadium, Basant Road, New Delhi which is a proud and historic moment for AIRF.

Briefly discussing the history of AIRF, he said that this 100 years history of AIRF has been full of struggles. Great leaders like Late Shri Rai Saheb Chandrika Prasad, Shri Mukand Lal Sarkar, Shri N. M. Joshi, Shri V. V. Giri, Shri I. B. Great leaders like Mr. George Fernandes, Mr. Priya Gupta, Mr. J. P. Chabe, Mr. Umrao Mal Purohit, Mr. Rakhal Das Gupta have successfully led AIRF while holding the post of President and General Secretary and scarified his entire life for the demands and problems of the employees. On the strength of these great leaders, today we are becoming witnesses of this historical moment.

The historic strikes of 1960, 1968 and 1974 took place under the leadership of AIRF which was successfully led by our great leaders of AIRF. In the year 1974, a massive indefinite strike of railway employees was also led by AIRF, which shook the then Prime Minister of the country, Smt. Indira Gandhi. While the history of All India Railwaymen’s Federation is full of struggles, its achievements are also no less. Ban on retrenchment of railway employees, salary redetermination, Dearness Allowance, Bonus, Promotions etc. are some of the facilities which are the result of the struggle of AIRF.

On 24th April 2024, we are concluding our “Centenary Year” and handing over the torch of struggle which has been handed over by our leaders, struggling workers and sacrificed comrades to the present leaders and workers of AIRF. We will never let it extinguish.
