A SSE/P-Way and a Trackman run-over between Khar-Bandra in Western Railway

A very unusual incident happened

Site geometry: There was a reverse curve of 2° at 350 mt rear of accident site.

Wheather: Cloudy and raining

Description: Traffic block is to be allowed on Down Through (DNTH) line between KHAR-BA for slewing of track to removal of PSR (sleepers).

SSE PWay STC late Rajkumar Sharma and late Nagesh (Track maintainer) got down on Khar station Up Local Line (UPLL) platform and moved towards south to attend block.

Meanwhile fast EMU local no. 90288, unit no. 5293/5294 came on UPLL at speed of 75-80 kmph (Virar fast Local diverted on UPLL line as block was granted on UPTH line in Khar-Bandra section for unloading of rail panel rake), both SSE Pway STC R. K. Sharma and Track maintainer Nagesh Sakharam could not notice incoming train and got run over.

They were brought to Bandra station in same train and subsequently taken away to Bhabha hospital Bandra and was declared brought dead by attending doctor at 1.03hrs.

Type of injury: Both have injured with open skull fracture.

“All of us (pway supervisors) been trying hardly to accept what has happened, we have lost a gem of a person”, they said.

Rajkumar Sharma, SSE/P-Way, Santacruz, demise is happen due to an unfortunate incident, got knocked down by local train at Khar station while night duty to attending a bkock.

There’s a huge void, he was full of enthusiasm, intelligence, curiousity, always believed in living life to the fullest, hardworking person. “We have always looked forward to him and his work, apart from being a wonderful official who has put all his heart and soul into his work, he was an amazing human being too”, said an SSE/P-Way.

He says, during his working, he has done some outstanding work with remarkable achievements. Also, during this tough time of pandemic Covid-19 he has served Railways in the best way he could have.

In this unfortunate incident, we have also lost Nagesh Sakharam, senior trackman, who was working at the same place. A very dedicated and hardworking staff.
